Two persons who are members of the same family were arrested by Montreal police on charges of shoplifting for a value of $ 200 in a department store. The ladies were summoned to Municipal Court to face charges of theft and conspiracy (Sections 334 and 465 Criminal Code).
They met Mrs. Vallelonga to ask her to defend them on criminal charges. The two women charged denied committing the offence and claimed they had forgotten the items in their handbags.
Our criminal lawyer set a date for the trial. From the court appearance to the trial, there was a 20 month delay. On the basis of the Jordan decision of the Supreme Court of Canada, our lawyer asked the Judge to end procedures because of excessive delays. The Judge being convinced by Mrs. Vallelonga’s plea acquitted the two women charged.
Not all our cases are subject to a Jordan request, as each case is unique. See notice.
