A client of Mr. Xavier Cormier had been charged with assault and forcible confinement against the person of his spouse. The charges were laid under Sections 266 and 279 (2) of the Criminal Code of Canada. It was a case of domestic violence. The client did not admit having committed the actions with which he was charged.
