Mr. Xavier Cormier, one of the partners of our criminal law firm, was representing a lady charged with fraud for over $ 300,000 (Section 380 Criminal Code) and producing forged documents (Section 367 and 368 Criminal Code). The client admitted committing this fraud against her employer. This client had many records for fraud and theft.
Once the client had pleaded guilty, Mr. Cormier requested that a pre-sentencing report be drafted in order to show the Judge what type of person the client was as well as the circumstances surrounding the offence. The Crown Prosecutor asked the Judge to sentence the defendant to prison, while Mr. Cormier asked the Judge that the defendant spend her sentence at home. Finally, the Judge followed Mr. Cormier’s recommendation and let the defendant spend her sentence at home.
