A client of criminal lawyer Xavier Cormier had two arrest warrants in two different judicial districts: one of the warrants was for breach of probation (Section 733.1 Criminal Code) and the other one was for not showing up to be sentenced in another case. Mr Cormier first requested the client be freed in the case concerning the sentence by providing bail to guarantee the client would return to court.
Then a partner of Mr Cormier went to the other district to request the client be freed in the case concerning breach of probation.
The client pleaded guilty to the charge that he had not carried out any of the community work he was supposed to do during his probation. The lawyer pleaded with the Judge that a heavy fine be imposed on the client rather than a prison sentence, arguing that the client had changed lifestyles. The Judge finally agreed with the lawyers’ suggestion and freed the client while imposing a heavy fine on him as a sentence.
Not all clients of lawyer Xavier Cormier can avoid going to prison. See notice.
